Location: South Africa » Kwazulu Natal » Natal Midlands » Southern Drakensberg » BulwerAshtonvale Guest FarmAshtonvale Guest FarmDescriptionOriginally built as a Church of England Mission in 1884, Ashtonvale is a working farm personally run by the Hill family since 1958. The original small family chapel has just been restored.
Situated in the foothills between the Southern Drakensberg and the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, Ashtonvale offers comfortable full board accommodation in en-suite rondavels and cottages for between 65 and 70 people. Other options include a B&B rate and one self-catering cottage sleeping eight people. We have 13 double rooms, 3 single rooms and 9 family units consisting of two bedrooms and a bathroom. The majority of the rooms have baths and a few have showers.
As there are no plugs in the rooms a hair-drying room is available and it also houses an iron and ironing board for last minute laundry. Tea and coffee are available at all times.
Ashtonvale is an ideal family holiday venue - An old-world guest farm catering for the whole family. Young children can enjoy interacting with farm animals and learn to milk a cow. A pony ride is arranged daily for them. They have a small playground (with their own tractor) and a tuck-shop.
Older children are safe to explore the farm on their own or with their newly made friends. A cricket match on the front lawn is a common sight on a late summer afternoon.
Our sparkling blue swimming pool with paddling pool has the most spectacular views, an ideal spot to play with the kids or enjoy sundowners in the evening. We are not liquor licensed so please bring your own. Fridges are provided on the verandah.
Most evenings, after dinner, we gather in the lounge (in winter around a roaring log fire) to play bingo, vegetable derby or similar family games or you might rather meet with friends in the 'Randy Rooster' to share a drink, play snooker or darts or just simply chat and listen to music.
